January 15,1897

Silver medal and vote of thanks to PC 245 B, Edward LINDAP, for having at great personal risk stopped a runaway horse and cab in Paddington, on the 3rd ult.

Silver medal and vote of thanks and 10s to PC 170 E, Martin KINSELLA, for having a great risk succeeded in arresting a pair of runaway horses and cart in Melrose Rd on the 2nd inst.

April 30,1897

Awards made for courage and humanity in saving life :- a silver medal vote of thanks and 2 guineas to Pole Sgt 7 C, John BRYANS, a silver medal vote of thanks PC 282 C, Irving McVITE, and vote of thanks to Mr Joseph HEYWOOD for their gallant conduct on the early morning of the 16th April in rescuing the inmates, a woman and five children, of 112 Park Rd, which was on fire. The service was peculiarly meritorious, inasmuch as the floor of the room from which the four children were taken was in flames, and one leg of the bed had gone through it. Both Sgt BRYANS, who was rendered unconscious and PC McVITE behaved like heros. Awards presented Friday June 18th 1897, fire at 112 Park Rd, occupied by Frederick William TOMKINSON [at present at sea] and family, used by Mrs TOMKINSON as a laundry.

A silver medal vote of thanks to Police Sgt 14 C, John KITCHEN for having on March 3rd, grappled with a man attempting suicide, and taken a loaded revolver from him.

A silver medal vote of thanks to PC 103 G, McDONNELL for having on the 23rd March stopped a runaway horse and trap in Rice Lane.

21s and vote of thanks to PC 290 E, James IRVING, for having on the 20th inst stopped a runaway horse and lorry in Boundary St.

21s and vote of thanks to PC 153 G, Daniel SWEENEY, for having on the 29th March, stopped three runaway horses and tram in High St, Wavertree.
 
10s to PC 129 C, for dragging a child from underneath a horse’s feet on the 1st inst.

10s each to PC 249 D, CLARKE and Thomas MORRIS for stopping a runaway horse and cart in Scotland Rd on the 12th inst.

Silver medal and vote of thanks to PC 244 B, J.DAVIES, for having on the 29th ult, stopped a runaway horse and car in Brow-side, Everton.

Silver medal and vote of thanks to PC 159 D, G. GRIFFITHS stopped a runaway horse and shandry in Great Howard St on the 5th inst.

20s each and vote of thanks to Insp BATTY and PC 257 B Thomas QUAYLE stopped a runaway horse and float in Whitechapel on the 9th inst.

August 13,1897

PC 50, John W. SCOTT presented a clasp to the medal awarded him in Nov 1896 for similar service, and £2, stopped a runaway horse at Bootle 26th ult.

Silver medal vote of thanks and 20s to PC 131 G, John BALSTONE, stopped a runaway horse attached to a shandry on Prescot Rd, on Nov 28th.

Silver medal vote of thanks and 20s to PC 116 F. Joseph NIELD, stopped a runaway horse attached to a brougham in Kingsley Rd, on Nov 30th.

Silver medal vote of thanks and 20s to PC 70 F, Robert McMURRAY, stopped a runaway horse attached to a cart in Crown St on the 6th inst. In the last three cases the police constables were injured.

Silver medal vote of thanks to PC 84 G, Richard E. BAILEY, stopped a runaway horse attached to a trap in Prescot Rd on Nov 25th.

Silver medal vote of thanks to Police Sgt 4 G, Edward HEENAN stopped a runaway horse attached to a float in Prescot Rd on the 8th inst.

Silver medal vote of thanks to PC 185 E, David GOODWILLIE, stopped a runaway horse attached to a gig in Esk St, Nov 25th.

April 28,1899

Bronze fire medals and votes of thanks to PC 289 D, Edward WARBURTON, and Frank DUNN for gallantly rescuing two children from a house fire in Clement St, on April 19th.

Bronze medal and votes of thanks to PC 192 B, James KILLOPS, stopped a runaway horse attached to a car Lowhill on March 25th, the PC was dragged about 200 yds and knocked down several times before he succeeded.

Bronze general medal and votes of thanks to PC 56, Edward R. BLAND [Bootle] gallantly stopped a runaway horse attached to a trap in Strand Rd, Bootle on April 1st.

Vote of thanks to PC 137 A, Thomas BUTLER, stopped a runaway horse attached to a cart in Old Haymarket on the 17th April.

May 26, 1899

Silver medal vote of thanks to Dei Inspector John STEWART [Bootle], gallantly stopped a runaway horse attached to cab in Pembroke Rd, Bootle, on May 4th.

Vote of thanks to PC 119 C, Edward MOLLOY, for gallantly rescuing a child in imminent danger of being run over by an electric tramcar in St James Place, on April 27th.

June 30,1899

Silver fire medal, vote of thanks and £2 to PC 300 D, Thomas P. MILLWARD for gallantly attempting to rescue a man from being burnt to death in a manhole 8ft deep, 2ft wide and 3ft long in the Stanley Dock, Railway Bridge on June 15th, the committee considered the service particularly meritorious and expressed admiration of the PC’S heroic action.

Bronze medal and vote of thanks to PC 61 [Bootle] Smith BENSON, stopped a runaway horse attached to a cab in Bedford Rd, Bootle on April 27th.

Bronze medal and vote of thanks to PC 95 B, John JONES, gallantly stopped three runaway horses attached to waggonette filled with children in West Derby Rd on July 29th.

Bronze medal and vote of thanks to River PC, 54 A, Nicholas JASPERSON for jumping into the river at the back of the Princes Landing-stage on Aug 17th at midnight and rescuing a boatman who had fallen in.

Vote of thanks to PC 86 B, Frank CHATSWORTHY, stopped a runaway horse attached to a car, Farnworth St, on Aug 13th.

September 29,1899

Silver clasp, vote of thanks and 20s to PC 260 A, J. R. PRINCE, gallantly stopped a runaway horse attached to a carriage in St Luke’s Place on Sept 9th.

Bronze general medal and vote of thanks to PC 249 A, John SAUL, for a courageous attempt to stop a runaway horse attached to a van in Water St on Aug 25th, during which he was kicked and knocked down. The horse was eventually brought to a standstill in George’s Dock gates by Peter GUNN and William TAYLOR, to whom 20s each was awarded.

Silver medal and vote of thanks to PC 189 E, Samuel A. GRAHAM, and 30s and vote of thanks to George CONROY, cabman for rescuing the inmates, nine in number of a house fire in Kirkdale Rd on Sept 14th.

Vote of thanks to PC 134 A, David Oliver RIGBY, stopped a runaway horse attached to a cab in Dale St on Sept 5th.

Vote of thanks to PC 125 D, James M. CLARKE, stopped a runaway horse attached to a float in Stanley Rd on Sept 1st.

Vote of thanks to PC 65 D, Albert E. MITCHELL, for jumping into the canal at Athol St and rescuing a child aged 5, who had fallen in on Aug 26th.

Bronze general medal and vote of thanks to PC 100 F, William Edward EARPS, gallantly stopped a runaway horse attached to a coal cart on Smithdown Rd, on Sept 18th.

Vote of thanks to PC 247 A, Joseph BEATTIE, stopped a runaway horse attached to a float in Islington on Oct 20th.
