Constable 215A Sam Garrett was my granfather is to date possibly the longest serving police officer in Liverpool. He joined Liverpool City Police on 4th August 1919 and retired on 31st March 1968. All of his service was spent in ‘A’ Division.
As a First Police Reserve’ his time was mostly spent on the door at the Main Bridewell, Cheapside.
Sam was an excellent swimmer and was one of the force swimming instuctors. He was a close friend of the Olympic swimmer, Austin Rawlinson.
He died October 1980 aged 84yrs .
