Note the large buckled belts on the front row officers. These were worn when on night duty to carry a heavy lantern.Sgt. Robert Tissyman was Liverpool’s NUPPO (National Union of Police & Prison Officers) leader and organiser of the union’s eight branches in the city. He played a major part in organising the police strike in Liverpool. When the strike ended he was dismissed from the Force. He later became a city councillor . He died in 1936. See: Sgt.
